As women, we recognize how lucky we are to have been born in this country, this century, this society. But we also recognize that women in other communities or parts of the world lead dramatically different lives.
In this workshop we’ll hear Sosamma Samuel-Burnett, J.D., speak about Global Advocacy for Women
  • Women are among the majority of the world’s population, yet have a disproportionately small number of leadership roles in society.
  • Women are the primary caregivers for both children and elderly — altogether making up nearly 80% of the world’s population.
  • Women continue to face political, social, economic, and religious oppression in many regions of the world, and also face disparity in the United States.
  • Women are more likely to face economic hardship and lack basic services and education.
  • Women have a higher capacity for communication and collaboration.
  • Women leaders have a role to play in supporting fellow women.
Through Sosamma’s presentation, we’ll have a better understanding of the status and roles of women in our communities and throughout the world. We’ll better understand the conditions that prevent women from reaching their potentials and advocacy opportunities to ensure they can thrive. And finally, we will consider how women leaders from various sectors can make a direct and meaningful impact in raising the status and opportunities especially for disadvantaged women in local, national, and international communities.
